Way to keep coral alive outside of water

Coral is a super versatile building material. The block, fan, and plant all have their own unique uses that are not possible in survival without altering the game. 

They should be able to be kept alive outside of water in a similar way to how coral can be waxed. Perhaps through using a water bottle on them to make them into "hydrated coral" or something along those lines. 

Coral fans and plants are able to be placed on so many blocks compared to other flowers and grasses, but we cannot take advantage of this because they die. It would truly help building to allow the colored corals to be used for details outside of water.
