Currently, minecarts are a largely abandoned transportation option, rarely chosen over faster alternatives. This proposal aims to redesign minecarts into a meaningful transportation system by integrating them intoprogression-based gameplay and infrastructure. The core idea is a mineral-based rail system where minecart speed depends on the material used. Higher-tier materials provide higher speeds, progressing from iron to gold, diamond, and finally netherite. Netherite rails would allow minecarts to reach extremely high speeds, even surpassing elytra, making them a top-tier ground transportation option and giving players a reason to obtain advanced minerals even in the late game. Players colliding with moving minecarts would take damage proportional to speed, adding risk and realism. To improve control and automation, a smooth braking rail should allow gradual deceleration instead of sudden stops. A timer rail should also be added, behaving like an unpowered powered rail until activating after a set time, enabling time-based departures and station systems without complex redstone. Additionally, players should be able to link multiple rideable minecarts together to form proper trains and support large-scale passenger transport. These features redefine minecarts as a deliberate transportation choice rather than a forgotten mechanic, with strong potential for city and infrastructure-focused worlds.
