There should be a storyline in the game as there is virtually no lore whatsoever and that sort of takes away an important aspect of survival type games.
It would give players more incentives to progress in their worlds and give a reason to do things such as go to an ancient city or fight the ender dragon lore-wise.
There could also be clues found scattered across the world which hint at things like 'who built the trial chambers' or 'where did sculk come from'.
I personally think that there shouldn't be a strict storyline which players have to follow in order to progress further, but instead to have it so players feel like they are the protagonist in a story, and can choose how they progress in the game.
