Dear Mojang Studios,
I would like to share an idea for a new mob called the Homing Pigeon, designed to help players recover from death more fairly without removing challenge from the game.
The Homing Pigeon addresses a common problem: when a player dies far from their base, items often despawn before the player can find their way back. While tools like maps, compasses, lodestones, and recovery compasses exist, they can be lost on death or take too long to craft. The Homing Pigeon offers a simple, balanced solution.
The Homing Pigeon can be tamed with bread at a player’s base. Once tamed, it remembers that location as its “home.” When traveling, it follows the player like a parrot. If the player dies, the pigeon will guide them back to the place where it was tamed, helping them reach their base or item location before despawning occurs. If it gets too far away, it will teleport back to the player, similar to wolves or cats.
Two Homing Pigeons can be bred using bread. They spawn naturally in plains biomes. If killed, they drop feathers and raw pigeon meat.
This mob would fit naturally into Minecraft by encouraging exploration while reducing frustration after death, without removing risk or challenge.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Nathan
