Think of the Beam Block as essentially a fence slab. In addition to bettering the presentation of porches and balconies, it could also be useful for constructing more aesthetically appealing tables without resorting to wood-based Pressure Plates.

Just like full-length fences, it would come in Nether Brick form and would also accept fence gates.
