Beacons have barely changed since they were initially added, even though I think that there's a lot more they could do.
First idea, simple, add a couple of new effects, namely:
Slow falling (I could see this being great for an end beacon),
Night vision,
and fire resistance.
Next, I feel like the range on a beacon is somewhat too restrictive; it's currently 50 blocks in all directions. My idea is to add 10-20 blocks of range per additional level on the pyramid, with a max of like 200. This makes it so each layer is bit more of a range.
The only thing I could see being a problem with the 2nd idea is lag, if the beacon has to check its pyramid every 20 ticks or so, having it check more blocks may cause lag on that frame. my only idea for fixing that would be to split the task over many frames. (I dont know how its implented now but still)
I also feel like there is untapped potential to using see-through glass-like objects to enhance the becon but I couldnt think of any
