The PC Editions of Minecraft (Java and Bedrock) lack the option for Splitscreen on the same device. While Bedrock does have Native Controller Support, Java does not.
In order to do either of these things on Java, it requires you to download a different launcher, multiple mods, and disable a few Windows settings in order to get splitscreen and controller support working on a select few versions.
Bedrock doesn't even have a splitscreen for Windows 10/11 edition, even though the other versions of it do, which doesn't make much sense to me.
In general, Splitscreen and Controller support would be great things to have on both versions for PC, especially since some people don't have a console to play splitscreen on.
Multiple people have also downloaded Controller Support mods on sites like CurseForge/Modrinth, in which there is a total of over 15+ million downloads for controller support mods.
Minecraft Java and Bedrock shouldn't have to rely on third-party addons/mods to get what is already possible on console.
