I understand the problem of tamable bunnies was that they are used for food sometimes and breeding them could be more difficult. Here are some ideas:
1. You can only tame baby bunnies.
This solution would allow the adult bunnies to be breed as normal and still be used for food, but the baby ones can be tamed as pets. The baby bunny would grow up and stay tamed and and babies it has will also be tamed similar to cats or dogs.
Solution 2: you could make them only tameable using golden carrots.
This solution again fixes the breeding problem, no one should be farming rabbits with golden carrots, so if a rabbit is fed that it is being spoiled and is obvious that the play is trying to tame them. This also keeps carrots as a breeding item.
Given the the rabbits are updated to be cuter, it would make since to make them tamable like other animals in the game that people keep as pets. This also makes more since from a game design standpoint , as after taming a dog and cat, it is natural to see what other animals are tamable, rabbits being one of the animals expect to be tamable.
