Hi! I think adding salt to the game would be a great and useful, although not a super groundbreaking item to the game.
Obtaining:
- Similar to flint, mining sand will have a small chance of dropping salt. Using a shovel enchanted with fortune of different increasing levels will increase the amount of salt dropped.
Usage:
Crafting
- Craft salt with a raw food item of your choice to turn into “salted” items, which do not give the poison or hunger effects when consumed. Items like raw chicken, pufferfish or rotten flesh. The amount of saturation these items would give would stay the same.
- Combine 5 salt and 4 glowstone dust to create salt lamps, which are decorative.
- Combine 9 salt in a crafting table to create salt blocks, which are decorative.
Brewing
- Use salt in a brewing stand to reverse mundane or thick potions back to water bottles.
Above is everything I have thought of for salt. I also think the other suggestions I have seen on this board for salt are great, highlighting here:
- salt rock and ore as a means to obtain them
- being able to eat salt for the same saturation as dried kelp
- using salt as an ingredient for potions of saturation.
- salt flat biomes? how cool?!
I hope this is helpful! #SaltForMinecraft2026
