Right now, the Nether is mostly a place to farm gold and blaze rods. After that, there’s little reason to explore. My 9 year old son wants to propose a focused Nether update that adds new rewards, new danger, and real story moments — plus a small but exciting equipment change: an amulet slot for armor.
New loot would include a Piglin Axe (not craftable, repaired with gold, ~8 damage, mines and lasts like Netherite) and an Amulet of the Nether crafted from blaze powder, gold ingots, and an ender pearl. The amulet never breaks and grants +3 armor and Fire Resistance, making Nether exploration feel like a deliberate build choice. For combat variety, a Fireball Cannon could use fire charges as ammo and fire instantly up to ~20 blocks, with diamond-sword-like durability.
Exploration gets a new highlight: a Piglin Outpost, a two-story blackstone tower packed with Piglins and climbed via twisting vines. At the top sits an almost-complete Wither summoning (one skull missing) next to a chest containing gold, a Wither Skeleton Skull, a Netherite sword, and fire charges — creating a tense “take the loot or finish the ritual?” moment. A lodestone at the base adds long-term value.
Two new mobs deepen the dimension: a Nether Trader selling gold/netherite gear, and a flying Ghost exclusive to Soul Sand Valleys that dissolves in the Overworld and drops a netherite ingot or blaze rod. Finally, a boss: the Piglin Warden (200 HP, ~5 damage), wielding and dropping the Piglin Axe.
