we’ve had the 1.[NUMBER] format for almost 17 years (as of today, 2026)! why change?
Everytime you type 1.21 in your posts, everyone thinks of new challenges and battles in the Ancient Trials (or whatever it’s called (i forgot the name).), type in 1.17, they think of new adventures from the Caves and Cliffs update, but 26.1 just feels like a software update.
But for most of us, 1.22 is what we're waiting for. Here is why that "1.x" format matters so much:
The Sense of Progress: Moving from 1.16 (Nether) to 1.17 (Caves) felt like moving to a new era. "Version 26.1" just sounds like a software patch for a spreadsheet.
The History: Every major "1.x" has a personality. You say "1.8" and people think of the bountiful update; you say "1.12" and people think of the peak of colorful creating.
The "Finality" of 2.0: Fans have joked for a decade that we’ll never see "Minecraft 2.0" because the game just keeps evolving. Staying in the "1.x" range keeps that dream of an infinite game alive.
As of right now, even with the new "Drops," the community is still calling the next big milestone 1.22. Whether it’s the "End Update" everyone is hoping for or something entirely new, that "1." is likely going to stay right where it is because the fans (like us!) would probably riot if it left.
