Minecraft’s food system is useful but very basic. This suggestion focuses on cozy immersive gameplay such as farming, cooking, roleplaying, and building kitchens, while keeping everything optional for players who prefer the current system.
New crops and ingredients could include onions, tomatoes, rice, corn, herbs, berries, and additional mushrooms that grow in biomes that make sense for them.
Cooking would feel different from crafting by using blocks like a cooking pot or stove where meals are prepared over time instead of instantly crafted.
Meals would feel more meaningful than single food items. Soups, breads, and plated meals could restore hunger efficiently and suit slower and more peaceful playstyles.
Eating a variety of foods over time could provide a small optional benefit such as slightly slower hunger loss. Players who ignore this would not be punished.
Decorative kitchen blocks like counters, shelves, cutting boards, and cookware would allow players to build cozy kitchens that feel lived in.
Recipes could be discovered through experimentation, found in village houses, or obtained through farmer villager trades.
