Currently, tamed animals such as wolves and cats only have two practical behavior options: sitting still or following the player. While following can be useful, it often puts pets in danger during exploration, caves, or combat. Sitting, on the other hand, makes them feel static and lifeless in bases, homes, or villages.
This suggestion introduces a Feeding Bowl, a simple block that gives players a middle-ground option. Instead of choosing between “sit” or “follow,” pets could freely roam within a safe, limited area while staying near their home.
How It Would Work
-
Players place a Feeding Bowl in their base or village.
-
Right-clicking the Feeding Bowl provides a small amount of pet food.
-
Feeding a tamed animal with this food binds the animal to that Feeding Bowl.
-
Bound animals will:
-
Wander naturally within a defined radius around the Feeding Bowl
-
Stay within that area and not follow the player away
-
Behave like passive roaming animals, but remain localized
-
-
Breaking or removing the Feeding Bowl removes the binding.
Why This Is Useful
-
Makes tamed animals feel more alive and natural in bases and villages
-
Prevents pets from accidentally following players into dangerous areas
-
Adds a clear middle option between “sit” and “follow”
-
Gives purpose and functionality to pet enclosures, not just aesthetics
-
Improves immersion without adding complex or intrusive mechanics
