Minecraft already features several forms of zombification and transformation through natural gameplay, such as villagers turning into zombies when killed by one, or horses becoming skeleton horses when struck by lightning. This proposal does not aim to replace or remove any of these existing mechanics.
With the introduction of zombie variants of mounts, such as the zombie horse, zombie camel and zombie nautilus, the idea arose of giving players access to an additional mechanic that allows them to transform regular Overworld mounts into their undead versions.
This transformation could occur through a specific item, a multi-step process, or even a new potion, without the need to define a single method from the start. The goal is to provide a more accessible and intentional way to obtain undead mounts, rather than relying exclusively on rare or situational world encounters.
To ensure this mechanic does not invalidate naturally spawned undead mounts, all undead mounts could share a common passive or trait tied to the zombified state itself, not to individual creatures. This would give zombified mounts a shared identity focused on playstyle and choice, rather than acting as a direct upgrade over their living counterparts.
