In Bedrock Edition there is a very helpful gameplay feature: you can craft a basic map without a compass by using only 9 pieces of paper. This makes the early game experience much smoother, because players don’t need to go mining for redstone right away just to have a way to navigate.
In Java Edition this alternative recipe doesn’t exist, which feels a bit inconsistent. By the time a player gathers redstone and crafts a compass, they usually already have a base and no longer need a starter map for exploration. Adding the cheaper map recipe to Java Edition would make the early survival phase more accessible and provide parity between the two versions of the game.
Additionally, Java Edition has a feature that Bedrock Edition is missing: interacting with a banner using a map adds a colored marker to the map. This mechanic is extremely useful for navigation and organizing large builds. It would be great to see this functionality added to Bedrock Edition as well, improving the overall exploration experience and bringing more consistency between both game editions.
