As a deaf user thats waited ten years, I'm so happy this has finally arrived for Bedrock.
Heres some of the basic feedback I've gotten so far!
1.) Sounds are *not* showing up in subtitles if more then one-three events occur, my example is being on a mount and throwing snowballs or shoot arrows, most of the time the "Arrow shoots" subtitle will not play. This is extremely noticeable when around a lot of animals, the subtitles just don't pick it up at all.

2.) Some events are still not translated yet! *Right now* this is just:
    subtitles.item.spear.attack
But I will update this post with more!

3.) Some events dont seem to have subtitles associated at all? This includes:
    Breaking a bottle
    XP Gained

    Less *feedback* and more suggestions:
4.) Please consider letting us customize where the subtitles show up at, right now they are off center and stuck to the right of the screen!

5.) It would be a lot of work, but having different subtitles for different blocks being placed/broken would be amazing.

Thank you for adding subtitles to Bedrock after 10 years. However, there are a few things that need to be addressed. The ones in bold are basically required for this feature to actually be usable especially for those with hearing impairments:

    • The UI should look like Java. Currently background of the text is too wide on Bedrock.
    • All the Subtitle text should match Java exactly. Simply copy the subtitle text from the Minecraft Wiki page on Closed captions as it correctly shows every single individualized closed caption for all sounds in the game (whether environmental, from entities, block updates, or other sources).
    • Please allow players to move the location of Subtitles. If this is not possible, please put them on the bottom right for Windows players only.

I think they are good but really short subtitles have enormous backgrounds jutting out in to the screen which aren't needed and they should be shortened. Also some captions seem to be missing localization keys.

    1. The option to move the Closed Captioned Sounds in different locations on the screen.
    2. Change the Opacity of the black text background.
    3. Upward and Downward arrows pointing to the sound
    4. Maybe live animated arrows where they switch the direction of the arrow depending on where ur looking at currently and not when the sound first played initially.

This feature is amazing, truly! I'd just like to point out that the positioning of the subtitles is too far up (to be in line with the day count, I'm assuming), it should be more like Java where it's located on the bottom right.

I also think that changing the chat position to the bottom left would match with moving the subtitles to the bottom right. This would make it more of a parity and would also clean up space in the middle section of the screen!

After years of waiting, we are getting updates that makes Minecraft Bedrock similar to Java Edition. I hope Off-Hand feature would come to Bedrock edition.

Could an in-game picture of the subtitles be added to this feedback post so that players have something to reference before making feedback? Not including images to pinned user interface posts has been a recurring issue as of late.

This feature needs to be in full parity with Java before its released. Players don't want a gimped version of a Java or LCE feature (aka Superflat customization) that takes an additional 5 years to reach complete parity because it was initially rushed to meet a certain deadline and now focus can no longer be dedicated to it because of other priorities.

If Subtitles are not ready to be shipped in this current preview cycle, delay it to the next and make sure it's ready for primetime.

I still think the width of the subtitle (closed captions) text should match Java, as currently on Bedrock the transparent backgrounds of the text are too wide and take up a lot of screen real estate no matter which location of they are placed.

The fade in/out effect that is present on Java also needs to be added to Bedrock!

Here are some things that need work:

    • closed captions are still missing the fade in/out animation. It needs to be added for parity with Java.
    • The dark background for closed caption text is too long which doesn't match Java's implementation. Preferably, the width should increase if the subtitle has a lot of text. Otherwise, it would stay relatively narrow like Java.

This is a great addition though one thing I would say is that the black bars when it shows the captions are a bit too long, so maybe shortening it would make it look better? Other than that, maybe also changing the font of the words? Overall, great addition!

Installed bedrock on my laptop today and while it says I am on the most updated version, the option to turn on closed captions is not showing up in the settings. I updated minecraft on my phone and the closed caption option IS showing up, and my friend's minecraft bedrock on her laptop does have the closed caption option.

Thank you for this change, I have been waiting for this feature ever since its announce. I would love if there could be more customization of which corner of the screen the subtitles appear in, it is great how you can have it on both the upper and lower right side, but with customized controls your fingers can often block them on touch screen devices. it would be great to also have them available on the left side.

    Thanks!

I dont know if this is possible, but it would be great to have different subtitles for each block placed and broken.

I.E.- Haybale placed or Lantern breaks

I think this would be great because each block has distinct noises attached to it.

    Thanks!

I also agree with the previous comment. It may seem difficult at first, but I don't think the team has to write individual subtitles for all 800+ blocks in the game. Here is a way they could possibly achieve unique subtitles for every different block that is broken:

    • The team could replace the word "Block" (specifically the one used in the subtitle string "Block broken") with a variable (ex: "𝑥 broken").
    • Then use the built-in Bedrock API to somehow track the block ID of whatever block was most recently broken in a specific radius around the player (the radius should be limited for performance).
    • Finally after retrieving the name of the block that was just broken, that name will be used as a substitute for "Block" (or "𝑥 "). So, if a player breaks Cobblestone, the game will say: "Cobblestone Broken" or if the player breaks Oak planks, the game will say: "Oak planks Broken".
    • A new subtitle doesn't need to be generated for each new type of block that is broken or that a player mines. The name of the block can just be quickly replaced if the most recently broken block is a different type from what was last broken, as long as block breaking sounds are continuously being made.
    • When a block is broken by a mob, or there are multiple blocks broken in quick succession like through an explosion, the game doesn't need to track and display the subtitle for every block destroyed in the blast. In cases like these, the generic "Block/Blocks broken" subtitle should be used.
