Some people miss the big updates, and for good reason. They added massive amounts of content that could entertain one for a long time, vastly expanded some parts of Minecraft, and were often high-quality.
On the other hand, some people prefer game drops, and for good reason. They let content into the game faster, and let Mojang add more variety to Minecraft over the course of one year.
This is a clear issue, as each style of updates has pros and cons. I offer an alternative solution to this, one that could entertain one for hours on end, expand the Minecraft universe vastly and diversely, bring new content frequently, and let the game have high-quality features. It is... ditch any form of major updates altogether!
You're probably thinking "Wait, what? But with no big updates and no game drops, how is new content added?" The answer is: with each update, Mojang releases some new content for the community to playtest, and makes changes things they currently have in playtesting, alongside the sort of changes typical of a small update (there's only small updates now). When Mojang feels a feature in playtesting is high-quality enough to be added to the main game, they release it as part of an update. As in, one of the small updates they release everything else in. Overall, there are no major updates, in any form, adding big new features, they just gets added alongside other things.
I know this might seem ridiculous, but imagine this was already the case. Would you be happy with it?
