Looking at the planned changes for version numbers does provide some readability that was much needed.
However it does come with some issues I noticed. Mainly patches, looking at rhe current version of bedrock, it seems like it has Patches and Drops on the same number. Which makes the new number an easy identifier completely obsolete. Another issue is that the current version marks a form of progression, how much the game evolved. You can easily recognize 1.16 as a grand piece in time. However under the new system, it feels more like a calander, which does appease the new Drop system, bur completely throws out history.
My proposed solution is something like this:
"Year"."Drop" ("Major"."Minor"."Hotfix")
Year and Drop act like the new system. The Drop number should act a bit differently as it doesn't account for patches. It's ment to be an easily recognizable indicator for versions and only accounts for Drops and Major Updates. Major is the major version, its not as Major as it was, honestly that 1 in the beginning was kinda useless as there likely won't be a thing. So Major is the Big Updates. Minor is the drops during the time of that Major Update, and Patches are patches to the drop.
It's better in an example, lets take the current bedrock version: 1.21.124. In the new system that would be: 25.3 (21.5.8)
The 3rd drop of 2025 with the last major update being 1.21 and 5 drops since with 8 patches after.
Ran out of words but I would like to share more if interested.
