Why can’t you have Minecraft go to your last spawn point when you die

When you die, and your bed is obstructed or destroyed, you’ll go back to where you started. But why not just go to your last spawn point, or until one where your bed is destroyed/obstructed???? This just happened to me and I just got some stiff done, but where I live is very far from my first spawn point, and since its a survival mode world, I cant have and flying/cheats because my advancements will be unfair.
