I'm a big fan of the new mounts of mayhem drop but the way the spear is animated is a bit strange. I've looked at it for a while and I think I realized what the problem is. The complete lack of any other changes in the player's model make it look weirdly stiff. Minecraft is already a game with simplistic animation, I know that but I think making the player's body twist with the dash would be a simple but effective way to make the animation both a bit more clear and look a bit more organic.
I think we can make animations more expressive while maintaining the simplistic movements by doing small things like this. The best example of what I'm talking about is Steve's animations in smash bros? weirdly specific, but they manage to make clever use of rotating different parts of the player's model to give certain attacks more heft while maintainging the game's style. just by just by rotating the model along with a sword swing makes the very normal sword swing the arm does look way heavier and I think we could learn from that, we're already rotating the item in the player's hand to do something similar so I think making a simple change like this would go a long way in making it look less sterile, as it stands the charge movie sort of looks incomplete, like there's an animation which isn't loading properly.
