Border/void cites

In the overworld, the world border could be replaced with a gradual tapering of the ground to the void, with high tech void cites near the edge. These void cites could have void ships - made my an ancient advanced civilization (maybe related to those of the ancient cities) to explore the void. These cites could have fragments of old tech and weapons.
