Unlike Minecraft Bedrock Edition, Java Edition does not have a built-in “friend” system because it relies on a more open, server-based multiplayer model. In Java Edition, players connect directly to servers or share their own, meaning social connections are managed outside the game rather than through a centralized account system. Bedrock, by contrast, integrates Xbox Live accounts, which allows for an official friends list, cross-platform play, and easier social interaction. Java Edition’s focus on flexibility, mods, and custom servers makes implementing a unified friend system more complicated, but players can still add friends indirectly through server whitelists, Realms, or third-party tools.
