When copper armor and tools get lower durability, they could change into different oxidisation stages like the blocks. You should then be able to wax the armor, to stick it to a certain stage, making it ignore the durability. It would allow for a lot of decorational uses, and many more customisation options for armor and tools. Also, its just a cool visual that the armor slowly turns green as you use it. It could also be cool in pvp to let opponents know roughly how damaged your armor is, and you could trick them by using waxed armor or something like that.
