With the addition of copper chests, I noticed that they have a very similar design to copper trap/doors. This got me thinking that (normal) chests should be designed after their corresponding wood's trap/doors.
The tops of the chests would look like the top half of their corresponding door, and the sides of the chests would look like the bottom half of their corresponding doors (this is how copper chests already look). The tops of double chests would look similar to the doors, the tops of single chests would look similar to the trapdoors. Additionally, I think the hinges and the clasps of the chests should match the door's hinge and handle colors.
For example, a single Dark Oak Chest would look like the dark oak trapdoor on top, and a double Dark Oak Chest would look like the full dark oak door on top. However, a single Cherry Chest would look like the cherry trapdoor on top, but a double Cherry Chest would just look like a longer version of the top half of a cherry door. A double Pale Oak Chest would have hinges like the pale oak door.
