As you probably know, The elytra in game is based on the elytra of a beetle (the hardened outer wing that protects the wings meant for flight).I propose two things one or the other that I would appreciate to be added or changed to the game;
1.rename the elytra to wings, and have the elytra as a separate item that you can upgrade the wings with, adding a few defens points to them .it would only apply the extra defense when not flying and after 8 seconds of being on the ground.this is because beetles take some time to tuck their wings in after flying.the elytra would look similar to the wings but would be beetle colored (random color that beetles have plus pink [black,grey,blue,pink, brown]. With pink being the rarest). The elytra would be found in the jungle temple, while the wings would be found in the end where the old elytra would spawn.early game, the elytra in the temples could be used as armour(not great one though).the wings would be what allow players to fly
2.the elytra item still be found in the end.would Be Textured like beetle elytra .and the wings crafta le. The wings would be crafted with paper and sticks and be held in the hotbar or offhand. The elytra would still be used for gliding. The wings have three uses before they break, when used they give the player momentum in the direction they are looking in.(The player model would be flapping a pair of paper wings and it would look very funny).
I think that one of these changes would be good.
