Some of These 2025 Changes Go a Bit Too Far
I usually try to stay optimistic about updates, even when others complain — but a few of the changes this year really feel like they swing too hard in the wrong direction.
Take the new Spear Lunge enchantment: At first, it drained 128 durability per use at level 3 — which is absurd considering spears can’t even have Mending. Now it’s been “balanced” by swapping in a hunger cost, but that’s just as extreme. Using Lunge now eats up 3 to 5 hunger points per use, and you can’t even trigger it unless you’ve got at least 6 hunger bars. It went from unusable to… still unusable, just in a different way.
Then there’s the villager trade “rebalance.” Locking key enchantments behind biome-specific librarians (and often at lower levels) has made gear progression feel like a grind. For example, Unbreaking is now Jungle-only and capped at level II, meaning you have to combine books and probably hit the dreaded “Too Expensive” anvil wall. It feels like we’ve gone from flexible trading to one forced path — and that’s not fun.
Balancing is important, but not when it comes at the cost of player freedom and enjoyment.
