In watching a variety of first-time players, aged 20-30, I've consistently observed players being misled by the Recipe Book's crafting previews; as multiple versions of a recipe are cycled through, the player often gains the impression that a specific variation of a material, e.g. brown wool, mangrove planks, or charcoal is required to craft an item such as a bed, torches, or even their first crafting table, and are actively guided away from using the resources readily available to proceed. Displaying a preview strictly containing the available resources, rather than cycling through undiscovered material variations, could clearer illustrate that wool+wood=bed, stick+coal=torch or planks=crafting table. Material variations could be displayed at a later stage, or when discovered. Adjacently, new players often unwittingly lose resources crafting "Wood" when they mean to craft Planks. To minimise confusion, perhaps the recipe for Wood could be unlocked after the player has successfully converted Logs into Planks.
