Termites and Termite mounds first suggested in 2018 during the Biome Vote.
This is a concept of how I think they could get implemented in Minecraft today.
Termites:
Technically not a living entity, more of a visual such as Firefly Bushes.
Termite Mound:
A new block where Termites live. Feed the Termites Honey from a Bottle to get them active, and then they will strip the bark off of any Log that touches the sides of the block.
They stay active for 5 minutes, and trigger observers when switching from either state. Dispensers can be used to feed them Honey too.
The goal of this is to enable an automated way of stripping logs, and add an additional use for Honey Bottles.
Mining Tool: Pickaxe
Break Time: 5s (Unenchanted Diamond Pick)
Blast Resistance: Equal to Deepslate.
Brush the mound while it is active to make it drop Termites, a new item, which can be fed to Ostriches, Armadillos, and Frogs to breed/tame them.
Termite Mounds generate as large pillar-like structures in a near, desolate variant of the Savannah Biome, the Desolate Savannah, which features a more dry and arid environment with Packed Mud and Terracotta.
