Minecraft is full of possibilities, but combat still feels like we’re just poking mobs until they die.
I have an idea to make fights more interesting — by adding items that grant combat skills.
These could be things like crystal orbs or scrolls, which apply a skill to a weapon, similar to enchantments.
Each weapon type would have a skill slot, and once a skill is applied, it can’t be removed.
The number of available slots depends on the weapon’s material:
Stone swords and spears — 1 slot
Copper and iron — 2 slots
Diamond and netherite — 3 slots
Unique weapons like the mace or trident could have 1–2 slots since they’re already strong.
For ranged combat, bows could be reworked into different types — long-range, short-range, or even magical, crafted with rare materials.
Shields could also get one or two new variants for variety.
Skills themselves could be obtained through villager trades, piglin bartering, or found in world structures as rare loot.
Some unique ones might even drop from certain mobs.
This would make combat more dynamic while still keeping the core feel of Minecraft.
