In the current planned implementation of the new spear weapon, attack speed decreases the higher the tier of material it’s crafted with (wood being the fastest, netherite the slowest).
I understand the logic that the devs are using here, with there being complex trade-offs between lower and higher tier spears and the reality that better materials are “heavier” than lower quality materials.
That being said, I ultimately think implementing the spear this way makes no sense, is counterintuitive, inconsistent with previously established Minecraft logic, and a mistake. Allow me to elaborate.
1. Higher tier tools have never been slower due to weighing more. Why can netherite swords and axes be swung just as fast as wooden ones, if netherite is heavier than wood?
2. There shouldn’t be complex trade offs within weapon tiers, but across weapons. There is never a circumstance where a wood sword or axe is better than its netherite counterpart. This should likewise be the case for the spear. Sometimes it’s better to use a sword or an axe, depending on your fighting strategy and style. That’s great and that’s interesting and the spear can spice up those kinds of decisions. But higher tier versions of tools should in every way be superior to lower tiers.
That being said, please make the spear like the axe and sword. Keep attack speed consistent across tiers, and increase the damage with the tier.
Thanks
