Make chain mail armor from iron nuggets!

It would fit so well in the game, if chain mail would be easier to make than iron plate armor, hitoricaly, making chain mail was prefered, because it costs less, and it still makes a good protection.
Almost every civilisation in history made it, so why cant we in minecraft?

    The problem is that it would be so cheap since you could craft a full chainmail armor with 3 ingots that any other armor would be useless, even iron. Also this would take away its rarity, making it less special.

    Chainmail was hard to make even if it was cheaper (which wasn't always the case) It wasn't used alone but with other armor.
