chainmail armor ideas

I had an idea for implementing a change to chainmail armor that would not only incentivize it's use much more, but also make it more unique as well. someone may have already thought of this, but I think it would be cool if it was wearable over/under your already equipped armor for extra protection. you could also wear chainmail on top of chainmail, creating a set of reinforced chainmail armor. I also think that there should be a recipe for chainmail using chains like everyone else has already suggested ad infinitum, but the extra iron cost over iron armor would be made worthwhile because of the extra utility of being able to wear it with any other armor, including itself. if you wanna go even further, since there are copper chains now, you could make a whole new set of copper chainmail armor with a crafting recipe and reinforced set of it's own. (but no recipes for the reinforced sets, obviously) You could add 4 slightly smaller slots next to the main armor slots for the added chainmail armor, and obviously the extra armor bars would be displayed on top of your main armor bars, like any other buff to protection. There would probably be some balancing decisions you'd want to make, like maybe not including netherite/diamond and maybe even iron to not make it too op, or maybe make the utility only available with unenchanted chainmail for the same reason.
