spear should hit single mob and be instantly "discharged" (raised up and do no more hits, cooldown taking place and requiring you to set it for another strike again)
piercing enchantment (same as crossbow has, to not need to introduce more enchantments doing same thing basically) would let you hit multiple mobs (increasing number of hits it can deal by one per level of enchant), unless you exceed limit of hits you can do, spear would go normally trough time limit cycle when held down, eventually starting to shake and raise up after final time limit passes, spear would just raise up doing no more hits, no timer reset would happen
it should be mutually exclusive to sharpness, smite or other direct damage increasing enchants to make it be choice between hitting multiple targets or hitting one target harder, alternatively if enchantments increasing time spear can be in active (possible to do damage) position or shortening cooldown could be ones mutually exclusive instead
maybe making it even that each next mob hit receives less damage than previous one
