I propose a Sailor Update centered on functional, buildable ships—from simple rafts to large Galleons. Since sunken ships already exist, let's add the unsunken variation!
Ship Mechanics & Features
Ships would be assembled similarly to an Iron Golem:
Place blocks over water in a distinct shape.
Add a mast (for sails) and/or rowing stations.
Christen it by throwing a bottle to name it, making it a movable, block-based vessel.
Key Features:
Sailing: Ships move via sails or rowing. Introduce wind mechanics to move sail ships and make banners sway.
Capacity: Larger ships can act as a movable base with cargo holds (rows of chests) and a Captain's Quarters with a bed.
Combat: Placing dispensers with fire charges/TNT/arrows on the sides adds functioning cannons.
New Mobs: Add Merchant Ships (moving villages for trading) and Pirate Ships.
Sail Crafting: Sails would be crafted in tiers like gold blocks: 9 Wool \to Small Sail, 9 Small Sails \to Medium Sail, etc. Larger sails mean faster travel (speed equals a Potion of Speed under ideal wind).
Respawn & Anchor System
Since a ship is a movable base, a special respawn mechanic is needed:
The Anchor block is crucial. To set a respawn point, the Anchor must be thrown over the side on a chain.
The Anchor's position sets the X and Z respawn coordinates.
The Bed's position on the ship sets the Y respawn coordinate.
If the anchor isn't dropped, the respawn defaults to the original spawn point.
