Eariler in 2025, Discord released their "Social SDK" - a new way for games to integrate various Discord features into their own games if they wish to.
I believe Minecraft would benefit from making use of these new Discord integration options, two specific ones that I feel like fits Minecraft (and why I believe they should be added to Minecraft) are listed below:
- (Improved) Rich Presence ("Playing Minecraft") status in Discord
This would benefit Java Edition players more, since Java Edition often is installed multiple times or in different system folders, having a Rich Presence powered by the Discord Social SDK would improve reliability of displaying that you're playing Minecraft on your Discord (if you've enabled in Discord's settings).
- Linked Channel, linking a Discord Text Channel with a Minecraft Server's/Realm's in-game chat
Integrating Discord's Social SDK would also allow providing Minecraft Servers/Realms the optional chance to connect their in-game chat with one Discord Text Chat in a Discord Server they have. This would be better supported then the current workaround of using Discord bots and Minecraft Server-side mods, and have better UX (user experience) too.
The Server-side settings for such an integration could be manageable only by the Server's highest-level operators, while the Player-side could be in a new Options category inside the Pause/Main Menu.
