Because the release structure has shifted, I think it makes sense to also modernize the version numbering system to reflect it. My proposal is:
-
Skip versions 1.23, 1.24, and 1.25.
-
Begin next year’s first game drop with version 1.26.1.
-
The first number (1.26) would correspond to the year.
-
The second number (.1, .2, .3, .4) would correspond to the seasonal drop (1 = Winter, 2 = Spring, 3 = Summer, 4 = Fall).
-
A third number (.1, .2, etc.) would indicate bug-fix updates.
For example:
-
Winter 2026 game drop >
1.26.1 -
First bug-fix >
1.26.1.1 -
Second bug-fix >
1.26.1.2 -
Spring 2026 game drop >
1.26.2
I have seen the other recent post discussing this same suggestion, but this proposes using the year number as the big number, rather than continuing from 1.21. Plus, it's similar to how snapshots are labeled.
