The fact that there are trial keys but no normal keys kind of bothers me. Wouldn't the existence of these special *trial* keys imply the existence of just normal keys?
So, I propose a "normal" key, and a "normal" vault block. The existence of the two is to prevent players griefing or stealing from one another's bases. A vault block is a block which needs a specific key to open, the key being tied to the vault much like a lodestone & compass. The vault can locked, in which case it can't be accessed unless unlocked. The vault is blast resistant and difficult to break.
If the vault block could be too confusing or unnecessary to add, another thing to do with the key is to make it simply link up with doors and/or chests, also like the lodestone. Simpler but it still adds something that I feel might be needed at some point to simply round things out.
