gold weapons + smite combo!

Hi! Sorry if someone already posted something similar, but I wanted to share an idea I’ve been thinking about.

We all know gold weapons are practically useless—unless you're dealing with piglins, then suddenly they become overpowered for some reason. But what if gold weapons got a small buff when enchanted with Smite?

With the upcoming Mounts of Mayhem drop, we’re getting spears, and I thought: wouldn’t it be amazing to have holy golden spears that deal extra damage to undead? Gold already has that “divine” vibe, so it would make sense thematically.

This would also tie beautifully into the symbolism that Minecraft already uses with golden apples. Since the very beginning of the game, golden apples have been treated as rare, almost sacred items that grant powerful effects. This mirrors myths from different cultures where golden apples are considered divine fruits—like the apples of the Hesperides in Greek mythology, which granted immortality, or the golden apples of Idunn in Norse mythology, which kept the gods young and strong.

So giving gold weapons a unique synergy with Smite wouldn’t just be a balance tweak—it would reinforce this long-standing theme of gold as a “holy” material in Minecraft. It would finally give gold a true identity: fragile, yes, but imbued with divine power against the undead

If Smite synergy isn’t doable, maybe tweak gold ore rarity or make gold weapons more viable—like iron-tier damage with lower durability. Just something to make gold feel more rewarding
