It makes absolutely no sense that copper swords are on par with stone swords regarding damage. They will be obsolete on the very moment they’re released if left like this.
Stone is the most abundant material out there. If your stone sword breaks, you can replace it in seconds. Copper, on the other hand, is harder to find and has to be smelted. A 45% increase in durability over stone is not enough to give any meaningful usage for copper swords because stone swords are trivial to replace.
The best solution would be to bump copper swords to do same damage as iron swords.
Pros:
-
Very sensible and intuitive. In reality, copper is far superior to stone as a material for weapons.
-
Gameplay-wise it gives copper swords more of a chance to have a niche.
Cons:
-
It’s not very hard to find iron, which would and indeed should be the better option of the two.
So, this would be a clear improvement, but maybe not enough still, considering how common iron is. One possible solution would be to make iron rarer, which would overall give copper tools and armor more space to have a worthwhile existence. Alternative solution would be to give them other uses. More enchantability? Extra damage against some enemies? Something like what gold has with piglins, but with something else?
