Hi Mojang Team,
I am writing to propose a change to the current restrictions on custom skin geometry in Minecraft Bedrock Edition.
The Problem:
The current system correctly restricts custom skins that expand or manipulate the player's hitbox, as this could give an unfair gameplay advantage. However, this rule also prevents harmless cosmetic additions, like custom hats, capes, or extra features that are part of the model but do not extend the actual hitbox.
This limitation stifles player creativity and prevents the use of many cosmetic skin packs that were developed by the community.
The Suggestion:
I suggest Mojang implement a check that allows custom geometry in skin packs, as long as that geometry does not expand the player's actual hitbox. The additional geometry would purely be a visual effect, and hitting that part of the model would not register as a hit on the player.
Benefits:
Increased Creativity: This change would re-enable a huge range of creative and fun custom skin packs for the community.
No Unfair Advantage: Since the hitbox would remain unchanged, there would be no risk of competitive imbalance.
Clear Distinction: This policy would create a clear distinction between harmless cosmetic changes and malicious hitbox manipulation.
More Content for Players: This would provide a source of new and exciting cosmetic content for players without relying solely on the Marketplace.
