From a Lost Explorer's Diary, found in a shipwreck...
Far away, past the calm, blocky waters where the dolphins swim with grace, the drowned mourn, and the people beg for sharks, there lies a sea--full of what seems to be corrupt stone, riddled with an eldritch disease. It is like sculk, but... smarter. And in this Eldritch Abyss, there are chasms like no other found in or above the sea.
From the chasms arise the disease. The infection, thankfully, only seems to spread within a 30 x 30 radius of some sort of eldritch conduit, however. It looks like an eye, and only opens at night, watching the waters above.
Upon descending deeper into the deep, beyond hostile crablike monsters and scores of radiant jellyfish, I discovered ancient ruins, full of incredible loot and redstone tech that worked underwater. Among the loot was what looked like an abyssal star. I crafted it with a Heart of the Sea. Then, pixel by pixel, it opened, revealing an eye. It led me to a Sunken Citadel. 'Twas full of ancient loot, new types of prismarine, and a structure in the center that looked like the Eldritch Eyes from earlier--but its size was 2 x 2 blocks. I offered it my heart of the sea, and it burst open, growing tentacles and rising up in the waters, as if poising for battle. I took my loot and ran away, screaming. I got in my ship, and--
And that was the last entry of this sailor's log before he realized built boats cannot move, and a creeper exploded behind him. Hardcore mode, sadly, was indeed on.
