Hello Mojang!
I’d like to share my opinion and suggestion about the crabs in Minecraft.
First, I liked the original crab proposal, but I found its usefulness rather limited. The claw granting just one extra block of building distance doesn’t feel very significant compared to how impactful older features were (beds, horses, minecarts, doors, etc.). Each of those items had a strong purpose in the game.
That said, my idea isn’t just about utility, but about making crabs an exciting new challenge for players:
Spawning and Behavior: Crabs would spawn naturally on beaches, near unique burrow blocks that visually blend into the sand. At first, they would seem harmless, simply walking around. However, there would be a chance that a crab slowly approaches the player and steals a shiny item from their inventory (such as a diamond, piece of gold, or even equipped armor).
Burrows: After stealing, the crab would run back to its burrow. Players would have two ways to recover their item: (1) catch the crab before it reaches the burrow, or (2) locate and break the burrow block, which would then drop the stolen item along with potentially other random “shiny loot” that the crab had collected.
Varieties: I believe red crabs should appear on beaches, since they are iconic and widely recognized 🦀. Meanwhile, blue crabs could inhabit mangrove biomes, hiding inside mud burrows instead of sand ones. This way, both designs are represented, each tied to its own habitat.
Thank you for reading my idea!
