    This new totem could MAYBE be crafted. Maybe breaking the totem drops the material required to craft it or you can find it in the loot. Could be a good incentive to go to this structure (you could place some amethyst blocks or some other block to, as I said before, extend the area of effect and then place the totem to protect that area from mobs or other players).

    Also, the totem would have a limit of the area it can protect AND this protection should be able to also stop pistons from moving the blocks it protects.

    The loot should be pretty good since there's no way of avoiding the puzzles and traps by placing and breaking blocks. Maybe just using elytras, enderpearls or potions, but elytras are late game and the others can be a little expensive, so it's ok.

    Also, the rooms and halls with traps should look pretty similar or just exactly the same so players can't tell what traps there are based on the room generation and instead have to pay atention to what the traps actually are.

    Some ideas of puzzles and traps could be: a hall with floor that sometimes falls when stepped on, so you have to be careful not to fall to some stalagmites. A hall with hidden pressure plates or tripwire hooks connected to dispensers out of reach with strong potions and arrows. A room with levers that have to be activated in some order hidden in the room.

    Also some rooms with beds and empty chests like in trial chambers could be great and also would be cool if there were different paths you can take.
