Frist, I think gold is useless right now, even with high mining speed and enchantability it's still too expensive to have so little durability, so it's not worth the gold. Even with Unbreaking 3 it has low durability. I'm not going to say that it should be able to mine more ores or that it should have more armor or damage, but I think the tools should be between wood and stone in durability and the armor just a little closer to copper in durability too, making it more useful and probably even more durable than iron with Unbreaking 3 (this isn't as OP as it sounds, since gold is way rarer than iron and you still need a lot of XP to enchant it)
And also, I think that adding tumbaga could be great. Crafted with 2 or 3 gold ingots and 1 or 2 copper ingots, tumbaga would be able to craft a set of tools and armor with more durability than iron, maybe an extra armor point too, but with the same damage, less enchantability than gold (maybe the same as netherite or a little bit less) and with a way slower mining speed, probably the same as wood. This set would be more expensive than gold, with more durability but worse mining speed and enchantability, which I think makes it a perfectly balanced set between iron and diamond, or more like a side tier of iron actually. The pickaxe should be able to mine the same blocks as iron and, of course, it shouldn't work for piglins. Tumbaga could also have more uses like a pinkish color for armor trims or a new pressure plate or even more.
