In a Minecraft world, if you load new chunks the world's file size increases and occupies more space on your device's storage. In Multiplayer that would be a problem because the more chunks players load the bigger the world size becomes. The more space it occupies in your storage the harder it is to manage or make backups of said worlds.
Having an option to add borders in survival could make it so that there would be a limit to how many chunks players could load and not having enough storage wouldn't be much of an issue especially to those who use phones and tablets to play Minecraft with friends.
