Where to find Halite

Since Halite in real life forms under arid and warm conditions it would be a new type of mineral that would be found in desert caves between y level 20 and y level 100 and would have one stone variant and one sandstone variant (both affected by fortune enchantment).

More efficient food

Halite would be used for crafting salt (2 units of salt per halite ore) and would be used to make compatible food give more saturation and hunger points (1 unit of salt per unit of food).

Other ways to find Halite and Salt

Halite could also be obtained by Husks, that would drop one unit with a 50% chance (number of rolls affected by looting: 1 more roll per level of the enchantment) and salt could also be obtained by making water evaporate in a cauldron on top of a fire or of a campfire.

Potions of Preservation

Halite could also be used in a brewing stand with an akward potion to make potions of preservation wich cancels the effect of active harmful potion effects (without clearing the effect itself, so when the preservation effect expires all the active harmful potion effects on the entity would work again) while active (the normal version would last 15 seconds and the long version would last 45 seconds). The potions would last 1/2 of the duration if the user is in rain.

 Halite lamps

Halite would also be used to craft halite lamps wich would be crafted in a crafting table with 8 halite ores and a glowstone dust in the middle and would emit a light level of 7 with an opacity of 15.
