Would it be possible to add vertical procedural generation to Minecraft? This would allow for infinite caves, underground layers, and even sky expansion.
This improvement would make mining exploration much more exciting, enable endlessly tall builds, and could even introduce new and unique resources.
For example:
Heat could increase with depth, making deeper areas more dangerous and requiring better gear to survive.
Players could discover underground villages, inhabited by NPCs adapted to darkness, with their own unique architecture, trades, and rare resources.
I imagine this vertical generation would work like horizontal chunks — only loading areas near the player, to keep performance optimized.
I understand this feature would be very complex to implement, but it could bring an unmatched dimension to Minecraft, making the world truly infinite in all directions.
