Shields are cool and all, but they are too OP and don't scale with progression. I think my suggestion can fix that. They should only block a percentage of the damage based on what material it is (wood, iron, gold, diamond, netherite), only doing full absorption with a projectile or a parry (it can't block environmental or magical attacks). A parry is performed when the player raises their shield 0.1 seconds or quicker before the hit. Parrying stuns the attacker, rendering them mostly immobile and unable to attack for a few seconds. Hitting a block (not a parry) with a critical hit will shield-stun, same will hitting a block 5 times in a ten second window. There will be heavy shields (your classic shield) and light shields (less protection but larger parry window, they have a round design). Enchantments include protection, thorns, inertia, which increases the number of attacks before shield-stunning in a 10 second window, and briskness, which increases the parry window.
