Now that Minecraft has the new copper torch and lantern, we have 4 kinds of torches but only 3 kinds of lanterns, so I think it is time to complete the collection by adding the redstone lantern. The redstone lantern would act similar to the redstone torch, but only be able to be placed on the top or bottom of blocks just like the other lanterns. The redstone lantern would also turn off when the block it is connected to is powered, just like the redstone torch. It would also power redstone components placed next to it like the redstone torch.
If that was all the redstone lantern did there wouldn't be much point in adding it, because it wouldn't provide anything new to the game that the redstone torch can't already do; other than being able to hang on the ceiling, which alone isn't enough of a reason for it to be added to Minecraft.
So I propose that the redstone lantern would soft power the block right above or below it (dependent on whether it is hanging from a block or sitting on a block), similar to how you can power the block next to the dropper and it still activates, but doesn't activate redstone dust next to that dropper which would have been activated if the dropper itself was directly powered. This would make it different from the redstone torch and add new interactions unavailable with just the redstone torch, with the bonus side effect of giving us new ways to turn off the lights in our builds without having to use redstone lamps which clash with many building styles.
