This change ruins many social dynamics of the game. For instance, if you are trying to remain hidden but need to respond to chat to avoid suspicion, you must un-sneak now and that removes a very fun aspect of the game.
Further, there are legitimate gameplay considerations as well. If you have been playing with toggle, then you get used to it staying on when you open your inventory, which then leads to a need to readjust your playstyle unnecessarily, leading to frustration for many users.
The way it existed in the game already prevented you from accessing inventories such as chests and furnaces, so to say that this addresses any in-world interactions is false.
This should never have been accepted as a bug. The only bug that actually exists here is that when you are in your inventory while sneak is toggled on, the inventory treats that the same has holding shift. These should be independent systems where the inventory only checks if you are holding the key.
This is a highly ineffective and frustrating change that solves nothing and breaks other things.
It would be far better to find some way to allow those who use "Hold" to be able to optionally toggle it without needing to open the menu, search through the controls and turn it to "Toggle." This way, both methods have access to the same behavior instead of removing gameplay for one method.
